Flexural Response of Concrete Beams Reinforced with Steel and Fiber Reinforced Polymers

This paper numerically investigates the flexural response of concrete beams reinforced with steel and four types Fiber-Reinforced Polymers (FRP), i.e., Carbon FRP (CFRP), Glass (GFRP), Aramid (AFRP), Basalt (BFRP). The responses forty two boundary conditions (simply supported over-hanging beams) were determined using ABAQUS. Subsequently, finite element models validated experimental results. Eventually, impact reinforcement ratios ranging between 0.15% 0.60% on capacity, crack pattern, fracture energy investigated for all beams. results revealed that, low ratios, performance CFRP significantly surpassed that other types. As ratio reached 0.60%, bars exhibited best performance.
